Kevin Hart recently told Ellen DeGeneres that he would reconsider his decision to step down as host of the Oscars. As most of you have heard, Kevin stepped down because the show’s producers asked him to apologize for past jokes he told that offended the gay community. At the time, Kevin wouldn’t apologize… so here we are.
Ellen told Kevin during their interview on The Ellen Show that she called the Academy to help get him rehired. Have a look at some of the hour-long interview.
Though he initially did not want to offer an apology, he has since made such apologies and expressed regrets about the offending material. Kevin seemed very reflective and thoughtful about his conversation with Ellen, and he told her that he would “assess” the situation and added…
“This is a conversation I needed to have. I’m glad that I had it here, and I’m glad that it was as authentic and real as I could have hoped that it would be”.
As for Ellen, well, no good deed goes unpunished. There was an immediate backlash, to some degree, from those in the LGBTQ community that believed she was too easy on Kevin. They accused her of acting as if she speaks for the entire gay community. That hot-flash seems to have subsided now, and the spotlight is turning back to the actual substance of the conversation between the two superstar comedians.
We’re hoping for the best for Kevin with this circumstance, as it looks like he has a tough decision to make. One thing seems for sure… an Oscars night hosted by Kevin Hart has got to be better than one that is not.
