NFL free agent Antonio Brown issued a public apology to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft today, albeit over social media, but a genuine apology. You probably remember the Patriots decided to let Antonio go when it came out that he had not just one, but two, legitimate claims of sexual assault against him. The wide receiver also sent menacing text messages to one of his accusers after her accusations came to light, and that made it even worse.
Antonio posted these words to Robert Kraft…
“Mr.Kraft I apologize sincerely to you and your organization! All I wanted to be was an asset to the organization; sorry for the bad media and the drama! Thank you sincerely AB”
Antonio was gracious at first after being let go, but within a few days he started on a tear, blaming anybody and everything for losing his second big money NFL contract in a matter of weeks. To refresh your memory of how he got here…
Antonio decided to play around with his $50 million contract with the Oakland Raiders instead of just keeping the games on the field. He publicly asked to be released from the team and secretly taped his conversations with Raider head coach Jon Grudden – then leaked the tapes on YouTube.
That’s how Antonio found his way to the Patriots, who promptly released the superstar – the best wide receiver in the NFL – proving that there are many things more important than the game, or even money. As the saying goes… ‘You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.’
Antonio targeted Robert Kraft after getting dropped from the team, railed against NFL owners, and recently went so far as to conflate his million dollar contract issues with the plight of black people in America.
His original jab at Kraft read like this…
“Kraft got caught in the parlor AB speculations fired different strokes different folks clearly.”
Antonio’s followers greeted his apology with a sigh of relief because they really want to see the baller lace up his cleats again, but the hour is getting late and Antonio Brown still doesn’t have a date.
The regular season is more than half burned away already. We’ll see if this about face gets the superstar more looks… or perhaps more fittingly termed, a last minute reprieve, to jumpstart his career again. Until the next time it drips…
