Rapper and singer Tory Lanez has managed to turn the current Coronavirus pandemic into a big win for himself with his wildly popular Quarantine Radio sets on Instagram Live. Last night was special on Live though, for two reasons. Tory not only dropped his latest album, but he also announced he was done with his record label. He declared himself “a free agent.”
Most in the music industry are sitting at home, unable to do shows and losing money – but not Tory. The “Say it” artist has used all the attention he’s getting on Instagram Live, during the Coronavirus shut down, to masterfully promote his newest album. The record is called The New Toronto 3 and it’s a banger, but most importantly to Tory, it fulfills his last obligation to his record label, Mad Love Records, an Interscope Records imprint.
To date, Tory Lanez has delivered delivered five studio albums from 2016 till today: I Told You, Memories Don’t Lie, Love Me Now, Chixtape 5, and of course, The New Toronto 3. That’s five studio albums in just over four years, a ton of music. This says nothing of the several mixtapes the artist seems to effortlessly get to the market as well.
It’s a big thing in today’s streaming world. Artists look to be free of record labels as soon as they sign. However, if you put in the work, you’ll be in the driver’s seat in no time, and making a killin’ along the way.
