The late Kobe Bryant is being honored in a big way by the citizens of Orange County, California – they’ve declared August 24th (8/24) to be Kobe Bryant Day! Remembering the Lakers basketball great by saying he “inspired so many,” the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to make it all official.
The only L.A. Laker in history to have two jerseys retired by the franchise lived in Orange County his entire 20-year basketball career, and was not only beloved on the hardwood, but also in the community. The board released a statement saying…
“During his career, Kobe Bryantās numbers on his jerseys were 8 and 24, therefore a fitting day to celebrate his legacy would be August 24.” They also went on to say, “Kobe Bryant was a basketball legend that inspired so many globally to pursue their dreams and taught us that hard work truly pays off.”
Of course the Bryant family has called Orange County their home for many years now. People are still missing the sports icon a lot, and maybe an official Kobe Bryant day is just what the community needs.
Until the next time it drips…
