Last night in Compton, California two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were shot at close range as they sat in a parked patrol car. TMZ reports the ambush happened outside of the Metro Blue Line Station at Willowbrook Avenue and Compton Boulevard around 7 PM on Saturday.
There’s video surveillance circling about showing the incident as it happened. It’s heavily pixelated, but you can see what looks like a man walking up to the squad car and quickly firing several shots directly into the cabin. Before you know it, the guy sprints off into the distance, as the camera feed abruptly cuts off.
We’re hearing that the officers, one male and one female, were both shot in the head, and are “fighting for their lives.” The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department issued this tweet…
“Moments ago, 2 of our Sheriff Deputies were shot in Compton and were transported to a local hospital. They are both still fighting for their lives, so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
The shooting sparked a massive manhunt, but the shooter is still on the loose at this hour. At least 14 detectives were called to the scene to help investigate what happened, accompanied by a large contingent of CSI personnel.
In addition, and true to form, President Trump couldn’t miss an opportunity to politicize a police incident, commenting over Twitter… “Animals that must be hit hard!” Whatever he means by that, it can’t be good for the Compton neighborhood where this happened.
We’ll bring you more details as soon as they’re available.
