Dr. Dre’s estranged wife, Nicole Young, made another legal move today in Los Angeles, as the fight for the couple’s billion dollar empire rages on. Nicole claimed Dr. Dre has recently transferred valuable joint assets into a solely owned holding company. The assets in question are the trademarks to his name, “Dr. Dre,” and his most prized possession, “The Chronic.”
However Dr. Dre’s rep told TMZ the claim is absurd for obvious reasons… they both pre-date the couple’s marriage by a lot of years. The way they put it… “They were married in 1996. Chronic came out in ’92 and Dr. Dre used his name since the 80’s, so it’s all his and his alone.”
It seems a logical argument, but in the documents Nicole filed, she claims Dre didn’t file to trademark “Dr. Dre” until 1997, after they married, therefore that’s her property too. Not sure what Nicole’s reasoning is for claiming “The Chronic” is part hers as well, but if she’s coming for his name, she’ll likely come up with something to make that argument too.
Nicole says they had a big blow up on June 27th, and she clains he kicked her out of the home they shared together. She also says that’s when Dre told her he would divorce her. But as you know, she dropped the bomb first just a couple days later and beat Dre to the courthouse. Her lawyers contend it was right after that when Dre started moving those assets.
However, Dr. Dre’s rep says…
“It’s the act of a desperate woman who finally realized that the iron-clad prenup she signed doesn’t win her the lottery.”
This thing has definitely turned into a hot potato of a divorce on short order. You know, Nicole is asking the court to grant her $2 million A MONTH in spousal support too… until this whole situation reaches a resolution. Just a lil’ walking around money.
We’ll let you know when the next jab is thrown – until the next time it drips…
