Former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin has been found guilty of murdering George Floyd. A Minneapolis jury handed down guilty verdicts on all three counts; second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree unintentional murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Second-degree unintentional murder carries a possible sentence of 40 years in state prison by itself. The judge will hand down sentencing in eight weeks.

The jury only took ten hours to hand down their decision, completely unswayed by the defense’s seven witnesses. The defense blamed George Floyd’s death on everything from car exhaust to heart disease, anything except Chauvin’s knee on George’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds.

The judge in the case revoked Derek Chauvin’s bail, and the former police veteran was sent to jail immediately.

TMZ reports civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump reacted quickly after the verdict, saying in part…

“GUILTY! Painfully earned justice has finally arrived for George Floyd’s family. This verdict is a turning point in history and sends a clear message on the need for accountability of law enforcement. Justice for Black America is justice for all of America!”

The news of the guilty verdicts is the only topic of discussion right now, from cable news to social media. Congratulations to the Floyd family on the win. Today was a good day for justice. Until the next time it drips….
