YouTube is nixing R&B veteran R. Kelly. The video giant has terminated two of the jailed singer’s accounts with no possibility of return.
Following Kelly’s sex trafficking conviction, they have banned him from their platform. However, he has not been removed from YouTube Music. While his music videos and other content are now offline from YouTube, his music is still available to stream.
R. Kelly, who faces decades in prison, had over 5 million subscribers combined on both accounts, titled RKellyTV and RKellyVevo. He will not be allowed to create another channel in the future, but with his pending prison time it doesn’t seem like he’d even have the chance to get back on the platform.
The Chicago native is due to be sentenced on May 4, 2022. In the meantime he will remain behind bars. As of right now, his Spotify account gets 4.9 million listeners per month and his “Ignition – Remix” track has over 500 million plays.
However, the publicly shamed singer’s reputation is nowhere near saved. Figures like Akon have said he can redeem himself, but due to his heinous crimes most would disagree. With his YouTube channels down forever, whatever fanbase R. Kelly had left has one less means of connecting with him and listening to his music.
