Tyler, The Creator is opening up. As one of many people affected by the tragic death of Virgil Abloh, he’s recently expressed what the fashion mogul meant to him.
At the late 41-year-old’s funeral in Chicago earlier this month, the usually goofy and upbeat West Coast rapper showed a rare moment of sorrow. He openly struggled to hold back the tears while delivering a touching eulogy about the world-renowned artist and creator.
Now, in a new interview with Fast Company, Tyler’s gone deeper into his relationship with the Off-White founder, who passed away following a private battle with cancer on November 28th. Originally, he says he didn’t like Virgil’s creations, but that all changed and later on they became good friends.
“He was always super nice … I remember [years ago] being like, ‘Why do you f**k with everybody?’” Tyler said. “My hating, pretentious *** couldn’t fathom that someone could have such an open heart like that and it took me a while to understand that. I’m like, ‘You are actually a f**king angel. You’re an angel, bro.’”
It seems like the 30-year-old is just another one of the millions and millions of people touched by Virgil in this life.
