JAY-Z isn’t too fond of his second album. In a rare tweet, he’s spoken up about how he feels regarding In My Lifetime, Vol 1.
The rapper released the album in 1997, where it debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. The tweet came after Questlove quote-tweeted a user on Twitter this weekend, who asserted that one of the album’s singles, ‘(Always Be My) Sunshine (featuring Babyface and Foxy Brown)’ “got an unnecessarily bad rap”.
Questlove responded to the fan that “our main argument is his hate for Vol 1. He is embarrassed for trying to make a monster & not putting numbers up. But ALOT of this lp contains his best moments. Fight me @sc.” To this, Hov spoke up and said the album “haunts him” to this day.
It’s still a little unclear why the rap icon isn’t a fan of his project, but we now know he really doesn’t like it. If fans are lucky, maybe he’ll try to really outdo himself and make a project so good that everybody forgets all of his prior bad acts.
Until the next time it drips…
