Nicki Minaj is careful about what songs she hops on. The New York native has revealed the reason behind turning down a feature opportunity from Gunna.
The Atlanta artist’s DS4Ever dropped on January 7th and boasting guest verses from big names like Drake, Future, Lil Baby, 21 Savage and Chloe Bailey – but not Nicki. The project beat out The Weeknd’s Dawn FM for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 as well.
Despite all of the album’s success, he wanted Minaj to appear on “P Power,” which is short for “Pu**y Power.” According to the 39-year-old, the track is way too explicit for her, especially considering she’s a mother now.
“Gunna came to my studio months ago and he asked me to get on his song ‘Pu**y Power.” I heard the beat and I went [crazy]. I was like, ‘This beat is outta here!’ No lie, I sat with the song for months and months and couldn’t bring myself to write to the record. It was like the moaning and the groaning on the track … I knew in order to get on a track like that I would have to be explicit and, in my opinion, I would have to really kill it and talk that real talk. And I wasn’t ready, I just wasn’t there.”
Nicki finished her remarks by saying, “That’s just to tell you how being a mom has changed me.” It’s great to see Nicki loving motherhood and keeping her child in mind at all times.
