Snoop Dogg has taken over the record label that helped launch his career. The rap veteran is now the owner of Death Row Records.
NPR reports the rapper/mogul acquired the brand from MNRK Music Group, which is run by a private equity fund managed by investment firm Blackstone. However, the specific terms of the deal were not revealed.
The 50-year-old said in a statement…
“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value.” He continued… “It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me.”
The West Coast artist originally rose to prominence in the 1990’s, after Death Row was founded in 1992. This is a major deal for Snoop, who is now in charge of one of the most historic labels of all-time.
