R&B star DaniLeigh is back in the news, and this time it’s serious. The “Bebe” artist was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) early Tuesday morning near Miami Beach, Florida.
Her real name is Danielle Leigh Curiel, 28 years old, and she’s actually from Miami originally.
TMZ reports they obtained a police report detailing how witnesses said Leigh was driving fast and erratically down the street. Then all of a sudden she hit a guy on a moped, and for whatever reason, she dragged the moped a block down the avenue.
When cops finally caught up with her, the former Prince protégé failed a field sobriety test and later flunked not one, but two, breathalyzer tests. The publication reports she blew a 0.145 on the first breathalyzer and 0.148 on the second.
Both rounds indicate DaniLeigh had an alcohol level almost twice the legal limit in Florida.
The cops said they found an empty bottle of tequila in her grey Mercedes, but Leigh denied she had been drinking. She was promptly arrested and reportedly spent the morning in the tank.
If all that weren’t bad enough, DaniLeigh’s hit and run victim was raced to the emergency room, where police reported he had a fractured spine and a bruised kidney.
The dancer and choreographer faces three charges: driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, and damage to property due to DUI.
People reports the singer was arrested at 8:16 AM and released on a $9500 bond at 11:45 AM.
This whole situation is quite grave, and it appears authorities have more than enough evidence to make all three charges stick.
DaniLeigh will likely lose her driving privileges for a long time behind this one, but that’s just the start. Leaving the scene of a crash causing serious injury in Florida could land her in jail for a long time.
You’ll remember the singer was most recently in a toxic relationship with rapper Dababy, and it ended in flames. The two got pregnant and had a little girl during their time together.
It should probably be noted, one of the things that marked the couple’s last embarrassing social media fight was the fact that DaniLeigh appeared to be drinking during the episode.
However, things had been going splendidly for the “Tasty” author recently. She obviously has taken the time to upgrade her appearance after the birth of her child. The singer has been looking awesome these days.
DaniLeigh recently announced she was one of the choreographers for Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour. Either way you slice it, that is quite an accomplishment.
What’s happened down in Miami is indeed a troubling turn of events for the artist and the fanbase that loves her. Let’s hope this is DaniLeigh’s first offense with these kinds of charges… you never know.
