There is yet more drama to be had in the post-divorce lives of music legend Russell Simmons, 65, and his ex-wife, Kimora Lee Simmons, 48. The former CHANEL fashion model is telling her truth all over social media, and none of it is pretty.
On Monday, Kimora Lee went live on Instagram to tell the world just how much abuse she and her girls have endured at the hands of Russell Simmons.
Kimora basically exposed Russell for being “broke.” In fact, she says he has admitted as much to his daughters, and she told her followers she has “receipts.” Kimora had this to say on Live…
“I think the bottom line, like probably the breaking point for all of this was over the past many months was when their dad just sort of cut them off.”
Kimora continued…
“But when he did this it was around, umm, just before finals and graduation. He did it without talking to the kids, or telling the kids or anything. He did it after he did an interview. I heard some clips from an interview with (DJ Akademiks). He was saying to the guy, like, ‘I’m so rich, and I got this, and I got that, and I’m this and that’… none of that can be further from the truth.”
She went on to say that she and her ex, presumably investment banker Tim Leissner, have been floating Russell Simmons to the tune of millions of dollars over the last decade.
The Baby Phat clothing line founder accused Russell of being abusive by harassing her with aggressive texts and calls and lying about the nature of their relationship online.
Russell and Kimora Lee share 23-year-old Ming Lee and 20-year-old Aoki Lee, who both just graduated from college this Spring. Ming Lee completed New York University and Aoki Lee from Harvard University, ahead of schedule.
Her daughter Aoki jumped online after her mother and tearfully posted a video of Russell Simmons in a full-on tirade, seemingly yelling and screaming at the 20-year-old. The video didn’t have sound, so it’s unclear what Russell was saying to Aoki, but she claimed it was full of threats toward her mother and toward her for supporting her mother.
Right now, the internet is full of scowling images of the Hip Hop industry pioneer, and it’s not a good look. The blogosphere is full of negative talk about Russell Simmons being a “deadbeat dad.”
All of it, a nasty irony just after Father’s Day celebrations around the country.
As for the money… whether Kimora Lee and Tim Leissner have been bankrolling Russell or not, it’s true there have been several business dealings between the two sides, as evidenced by the court battle they had in 2021.
Radar Online reported Russell accused Kimora Lee and Leissner of stealing four million shares of stock from an investment company they all owned together called Nu Horizons Investment Group. To Russell, it seemed like the couple cashed out like scammers.
It is true they withdrew the shares to satisfy a bond with federal authorities after Tim Leissner had to plead guilty to bilking $4 billion from unwitting victims in one of his Malaysian investment schemes. The businessman was also ordered to pay a huge $44 million restitution fee as a result.
In the end, the court found Kimora Lee and Leissner did not abscond with the shares at all, but they cashed out legally. Russell was subsequently ordered by a judge to pay $100,000 in her legal fees after her countersuit.
From what Kimora Lee was saying on Live, it seems that judgement may have a lot to do with Russell eventually cutting off his own flesh and blood at graduation time.
Russell, on Tuesday, posted an apology for yelling at his daughter Aoki. He penned it with a message saying in part…
“DEEPLY sorry for being frustrated and yelling… but know this… there are no conditions… for sure I love you guys more than I love myself.”
Who knows if this bold move to out their father as a deadbeat and an abuser will put an end to the drama going on between Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons, but a heartfelt apology can’t hurt.
Interestingly, during her lengthy and emotional talk, Kimora Lee started crying when she talked about the fact she was only 16 when she started dating Russell Simmons. We did the math, and it means Russell was 34 years old at the time.
She seemed visibly shaken and full of misgivings after realizing she missed her junior and senior proms because she was dating the much older Russell Simmons.
You might remember, in 2017, Russell had to resign from Def Jam after several women came forward and accused him of raping them. Six other women would eventually accuse Russell of sexual harassment.
Model Keri Claussen Khalighi was the first to speak up. She said she was only 17 years old in 1991 when she was allegedly raped by Russell Simmons. Coincidentally, that is the same year Russell started dating 16-year-old Kimora Lee.
