Rapper Dababy shocked fans with a new video for the remix to his hit, “Shake Sumn,” featuring Sexyy Red. The rap stars fit like links on the effortless track.
“Shake Sumn” can be found on the artist’s May 5th EP, CALL DA FIREMAN. It has proven to be a workhorse of a track, officially bringing the North Carolina artist back from dismal record sales since his controversy in 2021.
You may remember the turmoil caused by Dababy’s homophobic rant in July of that year while rocking a Rolling Loud stage in Miami, Florida.
He thought it wise to tell a South Beach audience…
“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up.”
Of course, Dababy didn’t stop there… He had a lot more to say that night, but we won’t rehash it all here. However, his real problems didn’t start until he decided to double down on his offensive comments after he was called out.
The “Suge” rapper’s streaming numbers took a nosedive from that point on, and they didn’t show any signs of life again until “Shake Sumn.” The file eventually reached #69 on the Billboard Hot 100 and pierced the top 20 on its Hip Hop/R&B chart.
Many industry watchers believe Dababy’s 2021 homophobic episode basically had the effect of negating and eclipsing the very talented artist’s once meteoric rise altogether.
One thing is for certain, the rap star will not be out worked. He continues to drop hot tracks and command sold out crowds all around the world. Hip hop fans are eagerly waiting for the artist to release his next studio album. Of this, there is no doubt.
The only question left to be answered… Has Dababy finally paid the penance for his crimes? Only time and hip hop will tell.
You can catch Dababy’s new remix on Alldaydrip.com’s Hip-Hop Heat Spotify playlist. Until the next time it drips…
