The record label Lil Baby, Migos, Lil Yachty and more are signed to is expanding. Quality Control will be venturing onto the hardwood and adding a sports-based division.
As everybody knows, rappers want to be hoopers and hoopers want to be rappers. The tie between hip-hop and basketball has been made very clear throughout the years, so this move isn’t a surprise.
The Atlanta-based label and their sports subsidiary, Quality Control Sports, has announced the launch of their new, full-service basketball division. NBA agent Derrick Powell has also been revealed as its global head.
Powell, who negotiated a 5-year contract extension worth $100 million for Cavaliers’ center Jarrett Allen back in August, says he is excited to continue building up the label’s impressive legacy. This is a very impressive move, and it seems to mirror the Roc Nation example, with their sports division.
The basketball to hip-hop cross-cultural connection seems stronger now more than ever.
Until the next time it drips…
