On Wednesday, the late great Tupac Shakur posthumously received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony was jam-packed with fans and celebrities to honor the artist’s accomplishments.
The rapper’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, spoke on her brother’s behalf. She talked about the kind of man the “Dear Mama” rapper was, on and off camera.
Tupac received the 2,758th star ever to be bestowed – it’s the ultimate symbol of Hollywood success. The “California Love” artist’s star will reside on 6212 Hollywood Blvd.
Radio personality Big Boy served as the event’s master of ceremony. West coast rap star YG was also in attendance, along with several music industry heavyweights.
Tupac died at 25 years old by drive-by homicide on September 13th, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada. During his short lifetime, he made five studio albums, including his diamond-selling pinnacle work, All Eyez on Me (1996).
The record was the culmination of Tupac Shakur’s gangsta rap musical ethos, developed from his life’s turmoil, incarceration, and a brush with death that saw the rapper shot five times on the streets of New York City.
His acting career took off almost as hot as his music career. Tupac secured staring roles in urban film classics like Juice (1992), Poetic Justice (1993), and Above The Rim (1995).
The rapper was said to be involved with several film projects at the time of his passing. That was borne out by the fact Hollywood players released three more Tupac movies within a year, including Bullet (1996).
After Tupac’s death, his estate, lead by his late mother, Afeni Shakur, released six posthumous albums, and all were wildly successful.
Tupac Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide. His induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame was in the category of Recording, but the artist’s influence and reach was very broad, and still lasting.
