Rap superstar Nicki Minaj is up to big success moves again with her latest music release on Friday. It’s an impressive play off of a 1990s classic pop jam.
As the clock struck midnight, Nicki Minaj dropped the song and video for “Barbie World,” featuring rapper Ice Spice and the Danish-Norwegian group Aqua.
The track is a re-imagining of Aqua’s 1997 hit, “Barbie Girl.” Nicki and Ice Spice’s version is the official lead single from the soundtrack for the upcoming Warner Brothers film Barbie.

It’s an interesting pairing indeed, but considering Nicki Minaj has done so much to keep the Barbie theme cool throughout her career, it’s obvious, she is the right choice to lead the way.
The “Starships” artist let her 222 million Instagram followers know the video was out last night to a ‘Barbz’ community in a full-on frenzy. The video is nearing 2 million views on YouTube at the moment.
You’ll remember, Nicki and Ice Spice recently paired up for the first time for the remix to Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana.” The ladies decided to go back to that well, to the sheer delight of their fans.
Barbie is set to be released on July 21st, 2023, staring actress Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as the classic character Ken.
It’s said to be a comedic fantasy that follows the two iconic Mattel characters from Barbie world into the real world. The box office projections for the highly-publicized film are off the charts.
As a side note, Mattel originally sued Aqua and MCA Records for infringement back in 1997, not long after the song came out. Mattel ultimately lost their litigation.
It appears the company has decided to take a new tack with the matter – if you can’t beat ’em… join ’em.
Moreover, Mattel took much umbrage to their Barbie toy being referred to in Aqua’s 1997 original track as a “blonde bimbo.” Go check out the verbage Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice use on their new version today, and you’ll be amazed by the irony.
